Two evening cheese course: Wednesday 15 February 18.30-21.30 and Thursday 16 February 18.30-21.30
We are delighted to bring cheese education to SE25, with Little Mouse being a fully accredited training partner of the Academy of Cheese.
For our Level One course, Gareth will talk you through everything you need to know to take your first step in truly understanding the wonderful world of cheese. In this small, intimate class, you’ll learn about how cheese is made, from milk production through to affiance. You’ll also learn about presenting and serving cheese, as well as how to create the perfect cheeseboard.
This course is perfect for people who love cheese and want to know more. It’s a fantastic first step towards a career in cheese, but – whether you’re a hobbyist or future cheesemonger – this is a fun, interactive evening, with cheese tasting and the odd glass of wine.
All refreshments are provided, including cheese. You will taste five different cheeses each night (ten in total), whilst getting access to the Academy of Cheese Level One Learning Road and Cheese Library.
What will I learn?
As part of the course you will learn essential information about 9 modules: - Milk production and Cheesemaking - Maturing, Affinage and Grading - Buying and distribution - Presenting and serving - Communicating about cheese - Cheese industry knowledge - Regulation and good practice - How to taste cheese - 25 iconic cheeses
Is there an exam?
To complete your Academy of Cheese Level One, there is an online multiple choice exam. You can take this in your own time after the course
Is it worth doing?
Gareth (who teaches the course) and Justina, who run Little Mouse, started their cheese journey with this exact course. We know many people who are now working full time in the cheese industry having done this course. The level one course is pitched at fine food fans too - people who just want more information about cheese, or want to be more confident in buying and tasting cheese too. Gareth is also qualified in wines too, so he can give information on how cheese works with wine and other drinks, so you can be more confident in creating your own pairings.
What can I expect on the days?
Both days will be seated, with Gareth talking through the interactive course content. We'll have three hours per day of content and cheese eating in a classroom setting.
What happens after the course?
After the course you will be expected to continue your study online via the Academy of Cheese's learning road. In addition to the classroom learning, you'll be expected to do around 12-24 hours of home study (including cheese tasting) before you decide to do your exam.
What happens after the exam?
When you pass your exam, you'll receive a certificate and pin badge, and you'll also get the opportunity to study for Level 2 and continue your Master of Cheese journey!
